Car Rider Information

AM & PM Car Rider Instructions

If you drive your child to school, it will be necessary for you to drop them off next to the gym. All cars should enter the drop-off line from Spicewood drive and follow the line around to the drop zone. Students are not to be dropped off before the zone outside the gym. Please help expedite the traffic in the morning by having your child ready to leave your car upon stopping.

Upon afternoon dismissal, the school has a loading area outside the gym. Cars will enter the school off Spicewood Drive and then come around the school to the lot by the gymnasium and park in the parking spots, two deep. Please fill the lot from the far end by the gym and grass and continue to the end closer to the cafeteria, front of the building. This will help drivers to see when the lot is full. Once the lot is full please stop and stay in line by the fenced-in electrical place. You will wait here until it is time to load the lot again. Drivers will stay in their cars and shut off cars or keep them in park. Students will exit the gymnasium and line up at the end of the parking lot and in the grass.

The students will be called by their car rider numbers to make their way to their cars with teacher assistance. Once all cars have loaded a teacher will direct them to exit the parking lot one set of cars at a time. Please be patient and wait your turn to leave as directed by the teacher. Cars will exit the parking lot and use Dave Pulliam Drive connected to Lombardy Drive to exit the school. If a car in front of you is not loaded the teacher will exit the next row and then call for you to go around the car in front of you on the right-hand side. As the first load of cars is exiting the 2nd set of cars will start to load the parking lot. Once the lot is full and all of the cars are in park the students will be called to their cars and cars will exit as stated above. This new procedure will help us to fill more cars at one time and hopefully speed up the dismissal process and keep cars off the street and keep our walkers safe.

Car rider dismissal begins at 3:20 and ends at 3:38. Students that are not picked up by that time will be sent to the office and have to be picked up there. If you can’t be there by 3:38 please contact the office to inform them.

Bus Rider Information

To help your child be ready for bus transportation, please teach them the following:

  • If your student misses the bus at their regular stop, do not follow the bus to the next stop and let your child walk/run beside the bus to get on.  The driver cannot see the student in the danger zone, especially if it is dark and could possibly hit them as they pull away from the stop.  Take your student to school.
  • Make children stay at least 10 feet away from the bus until they begin to enter.  Children will be able to see the driver and the driver can see them.
  • If children must cross the street to the bus they should cross the street 10 feet (five giant steps) in front of the bus where they can see the driver and the driver can see them.
  • Warn children that, if they drop something, they should never pick it up.  Instead, they should tell the driver and follow the driver’s instructions. If they bend over to pick up a dropped object, they might not be seen by the driver and could be hurt if the driver pulls away from the stop.
  • Remind children to look to the right before they step off the bus. Car drivers in a hurry sometimes try to sneak by the bus on the right hand side.
  • Teach your child to secure loose drawstrings and other objects that may get caught in the handrail or door of the bus as they are exiting.
  • If you meet your child at the bus stop after school, wait on the side where the child will be dropped off, not across the street. Children can be so excited at seeing you  after school that they may dash across the street and forget the safety rules.
